Where's Gregg?

Howdy! And welcome to my website. Like most other college graduates, I'm trying to stake my claim to something in the world wide web, or whatever. Here you can find my work schedule, look into what music I'm enjoying, the progress of my professional life, and some other miscellaneous debris. My resume and writing samples are available if you are a potential employer. I have a blog (who doesn't have a blog?) if you're looking to get an indepth view of my random thoughts and there are pictures, as everybody love pictures. Shoot me an email, skype me, or call me through the contact page and I'd be glad to get in touch!

So...I've slacked real bad on this. I'm sure if anybody was looking at this regularly, they've stopped. Anywho. My job as a restaurant manager has had its highs and lows, but I think in the last couple of days it's finally clicked for me. My staff is getting better everyday, our ability to serve guests effectively, quickly, and most importantly, correctly, has been on a constant upgrade. I'm rather proud of all of this. I'm not sure what influence I've had over everybody, but it doesn't matter. The fact is that Carmie's is better than before I began working there and people are noticing and mentioning it. Even our bad days are better than the mediocre days a few months ago. I'm about to get into banquet management and I'm honestly ready for it. The collective mass of my previous experience is beginning to manifest itself in the form of a facility which is improving. Woah.

Finishing up my kitchen training this week before I really dig into the bar management aspect at Carmie's. Everything is going better than I could have imagined. I'm learning new things everyday and I'm constantly using my prior skills. I'm really excited to see how this will pan out in the next few months.

...And it looks like I'm moving to Tiffin, OH. Stay tuned as this is bound to be pretty interesting from here on out!

So what happened to the whole month of June, eh? Well...car problems and a cyst that hurt for 2 straight weeks! I picked up some extra hours at Dick's which was simply a life saver. What a great place. Back on the prowl for a second position to help stack some dollars. Been studying on and off for the GRE, hopeing to get that taken care of and then start seriously looking into grad school in the next few years. Besides that, I've traded in my Wii for a DSi, which makes me a more portable nerd!

Just as my second home of Lebowski's was starting to pick up, they decided to lay me off. As sad as this makes me, it does force my hand out of my pockets and back into the books. I learned many skills while there, however, and 1524 East Blvd. provided a nice little landing pad for me here in NC. I think I may have even taught a few people about how we do hospitality in Detroit, as well. Regardless, it was fun and short lived; easy and kind of boring just like any gig of that sort should be. I wish them the best of luck in this "dog eat dog" world.

After careful consideration, I am now fully behind taking the GRE and working towards my Master's in Public Adminstration and/or Nonprofit management. The application process won't start until early next spring, so I'm going to be in Charlotte until at least next February and probably closer to April or May.

I keep encountering celebrities at Dick's whom I don't know. This confuses my peers. I also encounter les gens qui parlent français. C'est bon.

Not much in the way of dramatic news, recently. Had some work done on the car to make sure I can get to and from work a bit easier. Lebowski's is starting to pick up. I'm dipping my toes into the stock market, finlly.

I did finally get an email back from Planned Parenthood regarding a job in Syracuse, NY. That small ray of promise helped to bring my political science aspirations back to life. Joined the APSA today for access to their job bank and to get some of the periodicals. There is a mentoring program which I hope to take full advantage of. Perhaps a graduate program might not be far off. There is little chance of me finding work which will pay my debt off, so I may as well add to it. Get rich or go in debt trying, right?

These were a few good weeks in getting mail! My Jimi Wallet came in, and it's pretty sweet. My business cards came in, and they are also pretty sweet. I also recieved a small cookbook regarding cooking with stock. This is yet another freebie I ordered and had forgotten about.

I finally got around to embedding my Google Calendar, which you'll find under the "Where's Gregg" link to the left. If you happen to be one of my fantastic customers at either of my fine employers, feel free to come and visit me on those days and please, ask for Gregg! I promise to give you the best quality of service that can be found in the Charlotte area. In fact, if you mention that you came to visit me from www.gregg-smith.com, I'll buy you an ice cold PBR, Genesse, or Genesse Cream Ale (my fav)!!

I've almost got the money needed to pay for my TEFL classes! I'm thinking that, save some financial tragedy, I should have them paid for with my next Dick's paycheck. I'm hoping to find a night class in the CLT area to teach afterwards and maybe plan a long vacation to teach a semester in Morocco or Côte D'Ivoire

I met, and got to BS in spanish and french with, Angel Cabrerra at Dick's last night. I had no idea he was the guy who won the Master's golf tournament, I just heard him speaking spanish and decided I could learn something from him. It wasn't until he started to sign autographs that I got the clue. Real cool guy!

Website is, as you may be able to tell, black. I've got the pictures problem settled and I hope to have the writing samples issue handled, but that's going to come after I make another pot of coffee...I have a ton of writing to post up. Between today and tomorrow, I should have all of the pages updated again. I'm thinking of a monday night update schedule, where the bio gets some work done, the reading list and in my ear gets updated, and so on.

Business cards got purchased, for a decent price, too! 2000 cards, double sided, white on black (hence the new website look), shipped for under 60 bucks. I feel very Bateman about my business cards.

Also purchased a Jimi wallet as my money clip is losing it's grip and it's destroying my lucky 2 dollar bill. I'm an accecssory hipster, what can I say?

Also purchased the Will Session's CD. Should be in the mail soon! If you're in the Detroit area, go see them as the Black Milk Big Band on May 15th. If I make absurd ammounts of money this week, I might actually fly in for this show!
