This is as happy as I ever look

Dear Stranger,
Thanks for coming to visit my website!  I know, it looks like something out of GeoCities circa 1998.  Fortunately my specialty is food and beverage solutions and not coding.  This parcel of the internet is not prone to being updated very frequently, so I apologize if there isn't much new info often.  Feel free to visit my twitter feed (greggdetroit) or my blog (pick my brain) for your up to the minute Gregg Smith needs.

For those who have found their way here without knowing me, here is a short summary.
I'm a late 20s Detroiter who spends 90% of his life in bars and restaurants either through employment or through squandering the gains of his employment.  My specialties are beer knowledge, including pairing and sales, employee training and the creation of training manuals, cellar management, and high volume food and beverage serving.

My formal education is a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Wayne State University with a minor in Romance Languages, focused on French.  I'm also a tech junkie with an expensive cell phone and gadget addiction.

When not at work or at another bar, I'm generally sleeping or getting my nerd on in front of my PS3 (PSN: GreggDetroit).  When the weather is nice, I disk golf and ride my bike.  I also enjoy cooking and "book learnin'".

So, hopefully you'll come say hi to me in person at Slow's Bar-B-Q or find me at one of the other local venues around here!

3.14.12.  Come and get your Pi!  But seriously, with all the resources available to me, I still cannot make a good image gallery for my website.  You're just going to have to follow me on Google+ if you want some picture action from me.  g3

2.26.12.  Just got back to reality after the Winter Michigan Beer Fest in Grand Rapids.  Whew.  Insanity.  I'll have some pictures and a better review up after I get out of work this afternoon!  g3

Below you'll find a short summary of the things I'm working on.  If you'd like to help me with any of it, let me know.  If you'd like to pay me to help you with it, let me know!

Writing:  I'm currently in the outlining stages of creating some sort of restaurant based book.  The format so far seems to be a manual/training guide for bitter liberal arts students who now find themselves in the service industry.  Having both a BA, and nearly ten years experience in "The Industry", I figure I'm in a unique situation to write such a book.  That situation, of course, is being bitter and finding myself in the service industry.  Hopefully I can come up with enough work to make some sort of coffee table book, but I'm sure we won't be putting books on paper by the time I'm done.

Beer:  Thanks to my employment situation, I have nearly 100 beers at my disposal every single day.  That being said, I've used my resources to pass the "Certified Beer Server" exam through the Ciccerone® program and hope to pass the Ciccerone® exam itself sometime this year.  Along with this, I'll be taking a MicroMatic® draught certification course in the near future.  Upon completing these tasks, I'll be an expert from the bottom of the keg to the bottom of the pint glass.

Brewing:  A friend and I are currently working on some homebrewing, as well.  The first batch, our "Detroit Commons" beer was a resounding "eh", but all progress starts somewhere.  The second batch, a chocolate/coconut/rye porter is currently sitting in a keg, waiting to be sampled.  A third super secret batch is just waiting to be brewed up

Technology:  To further complicate my ToDo list, I've got a handful of mobile application ideas that I'm in the process of planning.  Must like everything else in my life, they are in regards to the restaurant biz.
